Bug in Time Tracking?

Postby thomask » Mon Jul 19, 2010 12:10 pm

Hi,
is the following a bug? I start time tracking on a selected task with Ctrl-l (works also with Ctrl-m). Then I select another task and press stop in the new appeared "Time tracking" window. Then the actual selected tasks's name is renamed to the task name on which I started the time tracking!

Furthermore the text on the help page to this has a wrong (old?) text.

It's a pity - I thought I found my tool for planning and time tracking (I tried a lot, and DevPlanner looks really great), but this thing is a no go.

Regards
Thomas

Hi Thomas,

Thanks for your kind words and reporting this inconsistency. Please download the newer version (v2.3.58), it's working correctly there. We have recently implemented "Track now name later feature" (Ctrl+Shift+L), you can start a timer for a new task without naming it immediately (for example a phone call, etc.) and define a task name later right in the tracking dialog. So it was a kind of a "side effect" of this feature.

Hope this helps.
Looking forward to hear from you,
Alexander.

Hi Alexander,
thanks for your immediate answer!
Time Tracking works with build 58. And so I'm looking forward to test this tool more. Thanks! Is there an announcement on new releases?
This "track now-name later" feature is a really good thing. I didn't found it in the help file - but anyway, now I know it. Is there a way to book such tracked times on existing tasks ('drag and drop on existing tasks', 'drop down list in task name field, to select a former task in order of latest used')?

Furthermore: congratulation to this - what I think unique - concept - fits exactly my needs.

Regards,
Thomas

Hi Thomas,

Thanks for your kind words. Yes, we are working on documentation which will describe all new features and improvements. We are posting news on updates in this forum.

I probably didn't get your question about booking tracked times. Personally I'm using time tracking rarely, only if I need to measure time accurate to seconds, e.g. a phone call or a meeting. Usually in the morning I'm pushing all recurrent tasks for the day (Ctrl+D) and doing drag-n-drop of tasks from a task list to the daily plan. During a day I'm only correcting the plan (some tasks take longer, urgent tasks can appear, etc) and marking them as completed. At the end of the day I have a very accurate time log and a list of completed tasks during a day. Some times it's enough to adjust task times and mark completed tasks at the end of the day. It all depends on your goals and time management technique you currently use.

Alexander.

Hi Alexander,
is there also a Full version (no Demo version) with build 58 available?
After buying the SW there is only a download link to a Full version of build 50 (with bug above) available.
Thanks for your tips above how to use the SW.

Hi Thomas,

I've resend your members area access datails. Looks like directbox.com refused to receive the original automated message.

Sorry for inconveniences caused,
Alexander.
